The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro were officially launched in China in an online presentation on February 13. After the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year due to the current outbreak of the corona virus, Xiaomi is presenting its new flagship smartphone in a stream.
In this article you will find out everything you need to know about the new Xiaomi 10 and Xiaomi 10 Pro, the release date, the technical data and the quality of the cameras.
Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro – what is already known?
With a series of really impressive details, which were published at the press conference, the two new Xiaomi smartphones position themselves in the upper class and as direct competitors of the soon to be released Samsung models Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Ultra.
This could make the soon-to-be-released Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro one of the best smartphones in 2020 – and at a price far below the current top models.
Although the introduction of the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro was based purely on the introduction of the two models on the Chinese market, a timely release of the global versions in Europe is certain. This will probably already happen towards the end of February. It is already clear, however, that the availability of the Mi10 and Mi 10 Pro will be severely limited due to delivery difficulties caused by the corona virus.
Still, we basically know everything about the new Xiaomi Mi 10 phones, except for the price and release date outside of China. We have compiled for you what has been known about the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro from the press conference and the leaks that have already been circulating.
The essentials in brief!
When will the Xiaomi Mi10 and 10 Pro be available? Probably in March 2020
How much does the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro cost? The estimated price will be around 530 euros for the Mi 10 and 690 euros for the Mi 10 Pro.
Xiaomi Mi 10 release date and price
The release date in China on February 18 was announced during the press conference and presentation of the two Mi 10 models. An exact time for the sales launch of the Mi10 and Mi 10 Pro in Germany is still unknown, the presentation should actually be published at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. A corresponding presentation, including the exact publication date, is still expected for February. In our opinion, the global version of the Mi 10 should probably also be available in Germany from mid to late March.
In China, the Xioami Mi 10 will cost around 530 euros. Of course, this price cannot be converted exactly, but it should be a rough estimate for the price range of the Mi 10. Xiaomi thus positions itself in the middle price segment with a slightly higher price than the Mi 9 last year.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro costs around 660 euros in China, which is only a moderate price difference compared to the base model. The Mi 10 Pro is significantly cheaper than the current Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Ultra models, but the equipment is in a very similar segment.
Xiaomi Mi 10 design and display
The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro look very similar. The display is not borderless, but the distance to the case has been reduced again compared to the Mi9. The display will bend slightly towards the edge and also follows the current trends in the area of the front camera. There is no notch, the camera is in a so-called punch hole in the upper left corner of the display.
As with the predecessor, the cameras and the LED flash are on the back. These take up a little more space than the Mi9.
The display is impressive. Both smartphones will have a 6.6-inch OLED display that has a resolution of 1080 × 2340 pixels and supports HDR10 +. The refresh rate of 90Hz is remarkable, which enables a much smoother operation and scrolling.
Camera (s) of the Xiaomi Mi10
One of the most important features for many smartphone users is the camera. Xiaomi was already able to score here with the Mi9 with an imaginative picture quality that has been improved considerably for the current models. The main camera of both models on the back takes photos with an impressive 108 megapixels and enables the recording of 8k videos.
However, there are differences between the two models in the other cameras. The Xiaomi Mi 10 has a 13MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro has a 20MP ultra wide-angle camera and two telephoto lenses. One uses 8MP and supports 10x hybrid zoom, the other is 12MP with 2x optical zoom, which is also used for portrait mode.
In addition, both Mi 10 models have a 20MP front camera for selfies and other snapshots.
The colleagues from DXO Mark have already tested the cameras of the Mi 10 Pro and come to the conclusion that the quality of the photos is very high quality. High details, little noise as well as good exposure and suitable white balance. Thanks to the depth sensor, portraits also work very well in bokeh mode. Occasionally the camera of the Mi 10 Pro does not focus properly, but this will probably improve with an update.
Xiaomi Mi 10 features and specifications
Both Xiaomi Mi 10 models use a current processor of the absolute upper class. The Snapdragon 865 is only used in two other top smartphones and has an integrated 5G chip.
The Mi 10 can surprisingly score in terms of battery performance, because with 4780 mAH it is slightly above the 4500mAh of the Mi 10 Pro. With both models, however, you should easily get through the day.
The Mi 10 Pro’s charging speed of 50 watts is slightly better than the 30 watts of the Mi 10, both models support wireless charging with 30 watts and supply other devices with 10 watts.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 will be available with 128GB and 256GB, in the two versions with 8GB or 12GB memory. The Mi 10 Pro will also be available with 8GB and 12GB but with 256GB and 512GB internal storage.
