Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro release date, price and specifications

The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro were officially launched in China in an online presentation on February 13. After the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year due to the current outbreak of the corona virus, Xiaomi is presenting its new flagship smartphone in a stream.

In this article you will find out everything you need to know about the new Xiaomi 10 and Xiaomi 10 Pro, the release date, the technical data and the quality of the cameras.

Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro – what is already known?

With a series of really impressive details, which were published at the press conference, the two new Xiaomi smartphones position themselves in the upper class and as direct competitors of the soon to be released Samsung models Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

This could make the soon-to-be-released Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro one of the best smartphones in 2020 – and at a price far below the current top models.

Although the introduction of the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro was based purely on the introduction of the two models on the Chinese market, a timely release of the global versions in Europe is certain. This will probably already happen towards the end of February. It is already clear, however, that the availability of the Mi10 and Mi 10 Pro will be severely limited due to delivery difficulties caused by the corona virus.

Still, we basically know everything about the new Xiaomi Mi 10 phones, except for the price and release date outside of China. We have compiled for you what has been known about the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro from the press conference and the leaks that have already been circulating.

The essentials in brief!

When will the Xiaomi Mi10 and 10 Pro be available? Probably in March 2020
How much does the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro cost? The estimated price will be around 530 euros for the Mi 10 and 690 euros for the Mi 10 Pro.

Xiaomi Mi 10 release date and price

The release date in China on February 18 was announced during the press conference and presentation of the two Mi 10 models. An exact time for the sales launch of the Mi10 and Mi 10 Pro in Germany is still unknown, the presentation should actually be published at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. A corresponding presentation, including the exact publication date, is still expected for February. In our opinion, the global version of the Mi 10 should probably also be available in Germany from mid to late March.

In China, the Xioami Mi 10 will cost around 530 euros. Of course, this price cannot be converted exactly, but it should be a rough estimate for the price range of the Mi 10. Xiaomi thus positions itself in the middle price segment with a slightly higher price than the Mi 9 last year.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro costs around 660 euros in China, which is only a moderate price difference compared to the base model. The Mi 10 Pro is significantly cheaper than the current Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Ultra models, but the equipment is in a very similar segment.

Xiaomi Mi 10 design and display

The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro look very similar. The display is not borderless, but the distance to the case has been reduced again compared to the Mi9. The display will bend slightly towards the edge and also follows the current trends in the area of the front camera. There is no notch, the camera is in a so-called punch hole in the upper left corner of the display.

As with the predecessor, the cameras and the LED flash are on the back. These take up a little more space than the Mi9.

The display is impressive. Both smartphones will have a 6.6-inch OLED display that has a resolution of 1080 × 2340 pixels and supports HDR10 +. The refresh rate of 90Hz is remarkable, which enables a much smoother operation and scrolling.

Camera (s) of the Xiaomi Mi10

One of the most important features for many smartphone users is the camera. Xiaomi was already able to score here with the Mi9 with an imaginative picture quality that has been improved considerably for the current models. The main camera of both models on the back takes photos with an impressive 108 megapixels and enables the recording of 8k videos.

However, there are differences between the two models in the other cameras. The Xiaomi Mi 10 has a 13MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro has a 20MP ultra wide-angle camera and two telephoto lenses. One uses 8MP and supports 10x hybrid zoom, the other is 12MP with 2x optical zoom, which is also used for portrait mode.

In addition, both Mi 10 models have a 20MP front camera for selfies and other snapshots.

The colleagues from DXO Mark have already tested the cameras of the Mi 10 Pro and come to the conclusion that the quality of the photos is very high quality. High details, little noise as well as good exposure and suitable white balance. Thanks to the depth sensor, portraits also work very well in bokeh mode. Occasionally the camera of the Mi 10 Pro does not focus properly, but this will probably improve with an update.

Xiaomi Mi 10 features and specifications

Both Xiaomi Mi 10 models use a current processor of the absolute upper class. The Snapdragon 865 is only used in two other top smartphones and has an integrated 5G chip.

The Mi 10 can surprisingly score in terms of battery performance, because with 4780 mAH it is slightly above the 4500mAh of the Mi 10 Pro. With both models, however, you should easily get through the day.

The Mi 10 Pro’s charging speed of 50 watts is slightly better than the 30 watts of the Mi 10, both models support wireless charging with 30 watts and supply other devices with 10 watts.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 will be available with 128GB and 256GB, in the two versions with 8GB or 12GB memory. The Mi 10 Pro will also be available with 8GB and 12GB but with 256GB and 512GB internal storage.

Gadget Check: What you need to get started at Twitch?

For many it is the big dream: start as a streamer and turn your hobby into a profession. While many different topics are covered on YouTube, the competitive platform Twitch focuses primarily on gaming. Numerous gamers have already made it here and made a real name for themselves in the industry. Some have even been recruited as eSports athletes. Now you want to finally try it out. But where to start?

Twitch – what can the platform do?

It has been number one among gamers for several years: the streaming platform Twitch. Here, players and influencers can broadcast their content live and thus have a large reach. Although streamers on Twitch also cover a few other topics, gaming is absolutely paramount. Most viewers visit the platform to watch their favorite streamers fight epic battles on the PC or console, solve exciting puzzles and much more. Of course, it is also a big dream for many players to sit in front of the camera themselves and one day even earn money. If you want to implement this plan, you should first ask yourself an important question: in which genre do I want to be and which games will I play? Anyone who knows his target group and defines it relatively clearly has a significantly higher chance of success.

Many specialize in MMOs like World of Warcraft, MOBAs like Dota 2 or first-person shooters like Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Some successful streamers even play a single game and become absolute professionals in it. The video player and streamer Ninja, who was long considered the platform’s most successful account, played e.g. B. only PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for many months. But not only action games are well received by the audience. For example, there are also streamers who focus on online poker and test the offers of various online casinos. You should also consider which variants of the game could be the most interesting. Texas Hold’em is the most played game with the most fans. Some streamers prefer Ultimate Texas Hold’em because you are playing against the dealer and not against other players. This can save time because other players who need a lot of time to make their decisions could cause boredom among the audience. Such small details should be carefully considered. Of course, you don’t always have to play the same games. Instead, the streamer Pewdiepie relies on always trying out the very latest games and evaluating them for his fans.

Equipment – what do you need for the stream?

Of course, it all starts with a good gaming PC or laptop. First of all, it is important that the device is good enough to play the selected games without any problems. Twitch has its own tips for this on its website and recommends that the computer should have at least an Intel Core i5-4670 processor, 8GB RAM and Windows 7. However, better, newer hardware and software can never hurt. Streaming from a Mac is also possible, but the problem is that many games are not available on Apple’s computer. A good graphics card is also included and should at least support DirectX 10. Some streamers even use two PCs because streaming and playing requires a lot of power at the same time. But this is not a must.

A stable and fast internet connection is at least as important as the right PC or laptop. Since streaming is carried out live on Twitch, one would like to avoid unsightly distortions or complete failures. So you can quickly lose viewers and once they are gone, you can hardly get them back. Of course, the camera and microphone should not be missing during the transmission. In theory, you can start with a webcam and a normal headset, but the sound and picture quality are anything but desirable. With around 200 euros you can best equip yourself and get a stream that is significantly higher quality. Now only a few lamps are missing to create the lighting conditions and you are one step further towards the streamer. However, the last part of the hardware is still missing: Most players work with a keyboard and mouse, but some choose to play with a controller. Here, for. B. the Dual shock controller of the PlayStation can be used. Make sure that the mouse and keyboard are comfortable to hold and are designed for gaming.

Software – how does the transfer work?

To start the first transfer, you need an account with Twitch. You should come up with a good name to stand out from the crowd. Many gamers attach great importance to humor, which is why parodies or allusions to characters or games are particularly well received. Now you create a small summary about yourself or the type of games that you will see on the channel, add a photo and a banner and the profile is ready. By the way, you can specify in the account settings that the live broadcasts are archived and are therefore still available to viewers afterwards. This is particularly important at the beginning, if not so many people are still going live.

Twitch itself is only the platform through which viewers can tune in, but does not enable live streaming. Therefore, players still need good streaming software that can transmit everything. Most broadcasters use the Open Broadcasting Software and XSplit programs, only the first of which is free. After that, it only has to be determined which sources the software should use – i.e. which camera, which microphone and so on. You also need a screen capture so that viewers can follow what’s happening in the game. Your own face should only be faded in so that reactions are observed and players can also turn to the audience. When everything has been aligned, it starts. Now it’s time to show your best side, make funny annotations and interact with viewers in chat or by reading out comments.

For many, becoming a successful streamer is a big dream. It’s not easy because the competition is tough. However, trying it out can never hurt and if you already have a good gamer PC, you don’t have to invest much to give the dream job a chance. The most important thing is to have fun and to approach the project with small expectations. And who knows, maybe you have just the right mix of skills and humor that the audience has been looking for!

Preview: Viewsonic M1 Portable LED Projector

No soccer World Cup is waiting for us this year, but again this year big sporting events attract all fans to the living room and gardens. And how could you better enjoy the World Handball Championship or the European games together than with friends? But sitting in the stuffy living room is always boring, especially in summer. So why not move the pack watching this year into the garden or onto the terrace? This is made possible by the Viesonic M1, a portable LED projector with WVGA resolution and 3 watt sound from harman/kardon.

Before we provide you with a thorough test of the Viewsonic M1 this month, we will introduce you to the projector in a preview.

Preview: Viewsonic M1 LED projector

The Viewsonic M1 is a portable LED projector of the latest generation. Thanks to its innovative design, the images can be projected onto the wall, ceiling or other bright surface from almost any angle. To compensate for any distortion, the M1 LED projector has an automatic keystone correction.

With WXVGA and 854 × 480 pixels, the resolution is more than sufficient for sports or a film with friends. The Viewsonic M1144 Mhz Tripple Flash has no flickering or distorted effects. With 250 lumens and a 12000: 1 contrast, the brightness is well suited for slightly darkened rooms or early evening.

Up to 100 inches diagonal

The size of the projection surface naturally depends on the distance between the projector and the screen. At 1.6 meters, the M1 provides a 60 inch image, if you have a little more than 2.5 meters you can enjoy a whopping 100 inches.

So that the action is not neglected, the M1 has not only the very cool design but also speakers from harman / kardon, which according to Viewsonic ensure lively highs, balanced mids and a powerful bass. Together with the virtual surround sound, the sound should be clearly superior to other projectors in this price range.

Diverse connections

The Viewsonic M1 offers a wide range of connection options so that films, series and streaming can also be enjoyed. Images reach the M1 either via HDMI, USB Type C, USB or a microSD. If you like, you can also use the internal memory with almost 16GB to save your favorite films there. If you prefer wireless, you can feed the M1 with your favorite content via wireless HDMI dongles.

Compact and durable

Thanks to the compact design of 14.6 x 12.6 centimeters with a thickness of only 4 centimeters, the M1 fits in every small pocket and thanks to the weight of 750 grams it is not particularly heavy. LED technology is much easier to maintain than regular projectors and can provide moving images for up to 30,000 hours.

Price breaker among the portable projectors

Although the Viewsonic M1 has almost everything that a mobile projector desires, it is a highlight in terms of price. Less than 300 euros are really cheap for 30,000 hours of movie enjoyment and sound from harman / kardon.

DIY Repair – What is recommended and what is not?

If your smartphone suddenly breaks, it is always very annoying. It often takes several weeks from the first complaint to the sending to the manufacturer. But in many cases it is worth repairing the smartphone yourself. A bit of skill and the correct instructions are of course required.

We show you when it can be worth repairing the smartphone yourself and when you should better keep your hands off it.

Repair your smartphone yourself – is that possible?

Whether it really pays to repair the smartphone yourself depends on various factors. If the damage is not caused by yourself and there is still a guarantee, it is always advisable to process the damage through the manufacturer. However, if your smartphone is outside the warranty or if you caused the damage yourself, a do-it-yourself repair can save money.

With a little dexterity and the right tools, a display can be quickly replaced, the flat battery replaced or minor damage repaired, for example on the headphone jack.

Replace defective display

Probably everyone who owns a smartphone has had the dreaded “Spider App” with which one jokingly describes a cracked display. And that is faster than you think – a fall from a low height onto the display or one of the smartphone edges is usually enough to damage the display. If the damage is only superficial, the cell phone often remains operable, but it doesn’t look nice.

With many models of current cell phones, the display is easily exchangeable with a little skill and effort. But be careful: on some models, the screen, the touchscreen and the housing form a firmly glued unit, here you can try to carefully remove the adhesive with a hair dryer. Before the repair, however, find out whether a display exchange on your own is feasible.

Tools required:

Pick and suction cup to separate housing and screen
Tweezers and spudger to detach plug connections on the board
Precision mechanic screwdrivers in various strengths
Hair dryer to loosen bonds

Difficulty:

Depending on the model, the difficulty of swapping the display can range from simple to impossible.

Replace battery

One of the components of modern smartphones that often fails first is the battery. Incorrectly charged, the capacity of a smartphone battery can deteriorate significantly after just a few months. Most smartphone manufacturers know this and therefore only give a six-month guarantee on batteries. With some smartphones, the battery can be replaced easily, with other models, however, it is so firmly glued to the circuit board that it is difficult to replace.

If you want to replace your smartphone battery yourself, there are some important points to consider. When choosing your replacement batteries, be careful not to buy cheap batteries. These are often inferior in quality, quickly defective and can even explode in the worst case. There are also some things to consider when removing the old defective battery. Be very careful when removing it and avoid damaging or bending the battery.

Tools required:

Pick and suction cup to separate housing and screen
Tweezers and spudger to detach plug connections on the board
Precision mechanic screwdrivers in various strengths
Hair dryer to loosen bonds

Difficulty:

Depending on the model, the difficulty of changing the battery can range from simple to impossible.

Replace board or processor

The supreme discipline in most cases is to replace a defective board or even the smartphone processor itself. It is difficult to get the spare parts you need, but the exchange is even more difficult. This self-repair should only be attempted if you know exactly what you are doing. The risk of completely destroying the smartphone is very high. Special tools are also required to replace a smartphone circuit board. The handling of a soldering iron and experience in soldering very small components should also be available.

Tools required:

Pick and suction cup to separate housing and screen
Tweezers and spudger to detach plug connections on the board
Precision mechanic screwdrivers in various strengths
Hair dryer to loosen bonds
Soldering iron with a very fine tip (e.g. from RS Components)
Magnifying glass to enlarge small components

Difficulty:

With almost all current smartphone models it is very difficult or almost impossible to replace the board or the processor itself.

Replace camera

Replacing the smartphone camera is also not an easy task. For cost reasons, the camera modules are usually not screwed to the circuit board, but rather firmly glued. The risk of damaging the circuit board or nearby components when replacing the camera is very high. So if you know exactly what you’re doing, only really dare to repair yourself when replacing the camera.

Tools required:

Pick and suction cup to separate housing and screen
Tweezers and spudger to detach plug connections on the board
Precision mechanic screwdrivers in various strengths
Hair dryer to loosen bonds

Difficulty:

With almost all current smartphone models, it is difficult to replace the camera yourself, as the module is often glued to the circuit board.

Alternatives to the DIY repair of the smartphone

If you don’t trust yourself to repair the smartphone, there are various alternatives. So-called repair cafés, which are found in almost every major city, help laypeople to repair electronic devices themselves. The often volunteer experts usually only ask for an expense allowance for the advice. A little more expensive, but still much cheaper than a repair by the manufacturer, are many cell phone repair shops that can repair minor repairs such as a display replacement, changing the battery or other damage within a few hours.

Reolink C2 Pro Surveillance Camera – Synology Compatible

We have already tested a few cameras from Reolink, including the Reolink Argus 2 that really won us over outdoors! Today we tried the Reolink C2 Pro, which is equipped with several very special features. We show you how well these work in our hands on.

Features

The C2 Pro from Reolink is a further development of the C1 Pro. The decisive improvements are the resolution of 5 megapixels and the integrated optical zoom. In addition, there are of course the useful features such as 355 ° swivel radius, 105 ° tilt and the integrated infrared LEDs for better night vision. The features at a glance:

  • 5 megapixel resolution (2560 × 1920)
  • Swivel radius 355 °
  • Tilt radius 105 °
  • Eight infrared LEDs
  • Two-way sound transmission
  • 3x optical zoom
  • Dual-band WiFi 2 and 5 Ghz
  • LAN port
  • SD card slot for recording

Setup & configuration

As with all Reolink cameras, initial setup is very simple if you take one thing into account. First the Reolink app is started, then the camera is added via QR code. If you, like me, receive an error message that the camera could not be found, have not read the instructions. Because to be able to set up the C2 Pro, it must be connected to the router by cable. After that, it can of course be operated wirelessly. If the C2 Pro is connected to the router, the setup in the app works wonderfully and the camera is ready for use after a few minutes. Thanks to the two antennas, reception is extremely good and stable, especially in 5Ghz mode. Internally, the transmission of the full 5 megapixel resolution runs smoothly.

Image quality & zoom

The image quality is, typical for Reolink, very good. Depending on the desired bandwidth, you can opt for a stream in high resolution or in a slightly more data volume-friendly resolution. During the day the C2 Pro takes good pictures even in backlight, at night the eight integrated infrared LEDs and the black and white mode ensure sharp pictures. The highlight for me is the 3x zoom, which is not, as is usually the case, digital but optical. This allows details to be zoomed in without affecting the image quality. How well that works, very much in the following pictures.

The Zookm brings distant objects closer without sacrificing quality. This is a great feature that no camera in this price range can offer otherwise.

Monitoring functions

In addition to the live view, the Reolink app offers a wide range of different functions to securely monitor your house, apartment or other area. This includes flexible alarms that notify you when an app is moving. The sensitivity of the motion detection can be regulated in 50 levels, separately for different times of the day. In addition, zones can be defined in the live image that are to be excluded from motion detection. If movements are detected, images or videos can be called up, saved or also sent by email.

If you would like a continuous recording, you can do this using an SD card. The recordings stored there can be called up, transferred via FTP or played directly from the app.

Synology compatibility & streaming

If you want to integrate the C2 Pro into your surveillance system, there are various options. You can reach the simple RTSP stream via the following URLs, e.g. in the VLC player.

Main Stream: rtsp: // admin: password @ ip_address: 554 // h264Preview_01_main

Sub Stream: rtsp: // admin: password @ ip_address: 554 // h264Preview_01_sub

The camera, including the controller, can also be integrated into the Synology Surveillance Station. Use Reolink C2 as a selection, as port 554, the username is admin, you can assign the password yourself in the app. After a short setup, the C2 Pro is integrated into the Surveillance Station and can also be displayed in the live view. Incidentally, all Reolink cameras that do NOT have a built-in battery (such as the Argus 2 or Go) are compatible with Synology’s Surveillance Station.

Our conclusion on the Reolink C2 Pro

The Reolink C1 was really good, but the C2 Pro is a step up in terms of image quality. 5 megapixel camera, dual WiFi and the 3x optical zoom are really unique in the price range. I like the uncomplicated operation and the simple integration into the Synology Surveillance Station.

The Synology C2 Pro is available from € 109 directly from the manufacturer’s store or from Amazon.

Fix Android Tablet / Smartphone Screen Flickering

Andoid smartphone and tablet users regularly report flickering on the screen in various forums. Almost all Android versions from 4.2 to Android 9.0 are affected. From time to time the screen starts to flicker, especially when browsing or white pages.

If you previously thought that the smartphone / tablet flickers because something is broken, I can reassure you. The flickering appears to be caused by a software problem. Hardware and software cannot decide who takes over the screen display. This creates a flickering.

In individual cases, however, a hardware defect can also be responsible for the flickering of the screen. Unfortunately, only an exchange of the device helps here.

Fix Android Screen Flickering Solutions and tips

Until the problem is solved by a software fix, I have several workarounds:

Workaround # 1: Developer options can trigger screen flickering. This is how Ohr corrects the problem.

  • Go to the settings menu
  • “About the tablet / phone”
  • Tap the “Build number” quickly 6 times. A message appears that the developer mode is activated.
  • In the left menu a new menu item “Developer options” has now appeared.
  • Call this up and mark the “Deactivate HW overlays” function with a tick. This can be found under “Drawing”
  • Deactivate the option “Blink screen areas when they are updated”

Workaround # 2: Screen flickers on Samsung Galaxy smartphones

  • Opens the settings menu
  • Go to the “Developer Options”
  • In the “Drawing” section you will find an option “Show screen updates”
  • Deactivate the option by removing the tick

Workaround # 3: Reduce screen sensitivity

  • Opens the settings menu
  • Goes to the “Display” or “Display” menu
  • Disables the Reduced screen sensitivity option
  • Restart your smartphone

Workaround # 4: Install updates

  • Opens the settings menu
  • Click on “Over the phone”
  • Select “System Updates” and check for updates
  • Installs available updates and restarts the phone
  • Checks for updates again until none are shown

Workaround # 5: Reset smartphone

If the top three tips have not been successful and your smartphone is still flickering, it will be a little more complex. Backs up all your data, contacts, photos and apps and resets your smartphone to the factory settings. This usually takes 30-60 minutes.

UPDATE:

Since the flickering of the screen cannot be fixed on every smartphone with my tip above, I have a few more for you. Please write in the comments if it helped you.

Screen flickers on Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S3:

  • Opens the settings menu
  • Go to the “Developer Options”
  • In the “Drawing” section you will find an option “Show screen updates”
  • Deactivate the option by removing the tick

The flickering should now be gone. Hopefully the bug will be fixed after the next update of Android.

However, if the flickering of the screen continues to show on your Android smartphone, it could also be a hardware defect. In this case, the dealer who bought the smartphone from the center should contact and make a warranty request for replacement.

How to Make Your Android Smartphone Faster

The market for Android devices has become huge and completely confusing. There are still fast and well-equipped devices with the latest Android 7 as well as outdated smartphones with Android 4.

Over time, every smartphone will feel slower and sluggish, we will show you some tips with which you can make your favorite toy “afloat” again.

Tip 1: turn off animations

Animations are used in Android in many places, among other things to open launched apps in a chic way. But every animation costs valuable performance and can slow down your smartphone.

But with a few simple steps you can easily turn off annoying animations:

  • Go to the settings of your mobile phone and there in the tab “Developer options”.
  • If you can’t see the developer options, you have to unlock this area first.
  • To do this, go to the “About the phone” area and tap the entry with the “Build number” seven times. After the seventh click, you will receive a message that the developer mode is now unlocked.

Now select the “Drawing” area in the “Developer Options” and deactivate the following options:

  • Window animation scale
  • Transition animation scale
  • Benchmark for animator time

All animations are already deactivated and your mobile phone is a little faster again. By the way, you can also fix the flickering of the display in the options.

Tip 2: Install updates

Updates not only make your smartphone faster, but also more secure. Therefore, check regularly in the settings whether there are available updates for you and install them.

Tip 3: Uninstall unused apps

An unmanageable number of apps quickly accumulates on your device and makes it slower over time, because each app also has regular background tasks, calls up the location or otherwise senselessly wastes performance. Therefore, check regularly for apps that you no longer need and uninstall them.

Tip 4: Delete unnecessary files

If the storage space on your device becomes scarcer, performance can also suffer. Therefore, check regularly whether you have unnecessary pictures, videos or music on your phone that you no longer need.

Tip 5: Remove widgets

Widgets are totally practical because they show you important information at first glance. But they also require a relatively large amount of system performance. So check whether you have widgets that you rarely use and deactivate them.

Tip 6: Clear the buffer

All installed apps store data in a buffer. A lot of data garbage accumulates over time, which can slow down your smartphone. The remedy here is either uninstalling unnecessary apps or manually deleting the cache. To do this, select the Apps tab in the settings, then the desired app and click on the “Clear cache” option.

A few days ago we published an overview of spare parts for your Roborock S50 for you.

Instructions for the RoboRock Sweep One S50

Brief instructions for operating the Xiaomi RoboRock S50 vacuum cleaner robot. The complete instructions can be found a little further down on this page.

Commissioning & operation of the Xiaomi Roborock S50

Extensive installation is not required with the RoboRock Sweep One S50 according to the German operating instructions. The robot vacuum is delivered fully assembled, only the charging station has to be connected. If you want to use the sweep function of the Sweep One, both the mop attachment must be attached and the water tank filled.

Connect the charging station

The most important component, besides the Roborock itself, is of course the charging station. Because the RoboRock always comes back here to charge its battery. The place should therefore be easily accessible on the one hand, but not disturb others in the apartment. Around 50cm of space should be left on the sides, at least 1.5m to the front so that the RoboRock can find its charging station again.

Once you have found the right place, all you have to do is connect the charging station to the waterproof pad and connect the charging station to a socket. That was all!

Operation of the RoboRock S50 with buttons

The RoboRock can be operated either via an app or directly using the buttons on the device. There are three buttons at the top. The left button with the plug symbol lets the RoboRock S50 drive directly back to the charging station and aborts the current cleaning.

The middle button is used for switching on and off as well as for a reset.

The right button triggers a so-called spot cleaning. For this you have to place the RoboRock in the room to be cleaned. If you then press the spot cleaning button, the RoboRock first measures the room and then sucks it off lane by lane.

The functions of the RoboRock only by key operation are therefore quite limited. If you want to use all functions, you should install the app.

Operation of the RoboRock S50 via app

The Mi Home app, which can be used to operate the RoboRock and other Xiaomi products, is available in both the Google App Store and the Apple App Store.

Connect the RoboRock to the smartphone

If the Mi Home app is installed and open, you have to create a Mi account in most cases. Then you are on the overview screen. Here you click on the “+” on the top right to install the RoboRock. Then you can choose your RoboRock.

If this is not possible, a WiFi reset must be carried out. To do this, press the plug and the spot button simultaneously for a few seconds.

After your smartphone has connected to the RoboRock, you have to enter the password for your WLAN. Now your new vacuum cleaner robot can also connect to your WiFi and the Internet.

Do you get an error message on the next screen that has a blue ring and “Connecting…”? Then just wait a little longer, that should solve the connection problems.

Control the RoboRock S50 via app

With the app you now have significantly more functions to control your RoboRock. In addition to starting the suction process, it is now also possible to add rooms or define schedules.

Add a room

In the Mi Home app, first click on your RoboRock and then on the gear icon in the lower left to open the settings. You can then access the Rau overview via the Manage Rooms item. If you click here on Add a room you can add a new room.

Then you will be asked to name the new room and you can also give it a symbol. The symbol then also appears on the start screen of the app and thus enables quick access to a room.

Enable automatic cleaning (schedule)

You can use the Timer option in the settings to define a schedule for your Roborock to clean the entire apartment, even just individual rooms. This works with a certain time, but of course also in combination with a day.

Change the suction power and volume of the RoboRock S50

According to the German instructions, the RoboRock has a total of four different cleaning modes, which you can select via Cleanup mode in the settings.

Quiet is the quietest mode. Here both speed and suction power are greatly reduced. So you can let the RoboRock run and also have a comfortable conversation.

Balanced is a bit louder and faster and the standard setting of the RoboRock.

Turbo ensures good performance and speed, but is quite loud.
MAX can be selected if you want to go fast. Because both suction power and speed are maximum here.

There is also the Carpet Mode option, if activated, the RoboRock detects carpets and automatically increases the suction power to enable the best cleaning.

More settings

There are many other options that can be useful in the settings. The name of the robot vacuum can be changed, one of different voices can be selected or an update can be made.

Instructions for the RoboRock Sweep One S50

If the quick guide above is not enough for you, we have a completely German manual for the RoboRock Sweep One S50 for you. This was translated and adapted by us, but is still a bit “bumpy” in some places. The instructions are of course unofficial and without any guarantee on our part.

Mobile vs. PC – Which is the better platform for strategy games?

Immersive environments, dynamic stories, unpredictable events, tactical challenges and logical thinking make strategy games what they are and what so many love about them. Strategy games are particularly popular in Germany, after all they probably reflect the German values skillfully, after all, it is about the perfect organization, the establishment of rules and the need to keep an eye on things at all times. While the PC is the most common platform for strategy games, there are now more and more mobile strategy games that can be played comfortably from a smartphone or tablet. Most would say that real video games belong on the console or PC, but the mobile game world is becoming increasingly important. With the ever better technology nowadays, the smartphones have developed into real high-tech pocket computers that can play even the most powerful games.

The PC – the platform for strategy games

The PC is still the most important platform for strategy games. Game platforms such as Steam and Plarium offer a wealth of online strategy games. From tower defense to gigantic MOBA or MMORTS, a wide range of games is offered here, many of them free of charge and, in the case of Plarium, easy to play in the browser. So far, neither the console nor the mobile device can keep up with the wide range of games available for the PC. The PC offers a lot of advantages when gaming, gamers particularly mention the possibility of upgrading the computer to perform even better when gaming. The larger screen, mouse and keyboard usually give the player on the PC better flexibility and control. Despite the constant popularity of the PC as a gaming platform, a medium is becoming increasingly important: the mobile device.

Why the mobile hype?

Mobile games are becoming increasingly popular and seem to be changing the game market quite a bit. In Germany alone, the market value of mobile games is just under 450 million euros, and a market volume of over 480 million euros is predicted by 2022. Game developers have already recognized the growing importance of the mobile market, after all, more and more high-performance games are making it onto the mobile device. Battle Royale hit PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroudns or shooter Fortnite are two of the giants that are now being played on the small screen. What is surprising is that these are often in no way inferior to their console counterparts. The new technology makes it possible. Playing on the mobile device has several advantages. The most important thing is that players are no longer bound to play at home where the console or PC are. Instead, the favorite strategy game is always with you and can easily be played on the train, at the bus stop and in all breaks.

Opinions differ as to which is the best medium for strategy games. Both the PC and the mobile device offer various advantages. The performance of smartphones is getting better and better these days, so playing on mobile devices is becoming more and more popular and the selection of high-quality strategy games, MOBAs and more is getting bigger. While many long-established PC gamers believe that strategy games only belong on the computer, the number of players who play both on the smartphone and on the PC is also increasing. So whether PC or mobile device cannot be answered in general, because it always depends on the preferences and requirements of the player.
